There have been a few updates to site...First off, We have 2 confirmed shows...One in Belleville on January 8th and on in Waterloo on the 22nd. Second, We have added some pictures in the "live picture" section that Lars Miranda took during the summer months that include Alex and Mark filling in with Eliote and a show that Alex did with his "This Soft Light" material.

Hello, I have made a website for "Defeated" and I am releasing a new CD. The only way to get a copy is to go to the page. Defeated.
Also the show on the 26th is/was cancelled due to no venue.
(November 6th 2004 )
I think the page is completely updated now...If you see anything that looks out of place or if something isn't working please let me know by signing the guestbook...thanks...the "music" section was the most time consuming so I hope you like it. have a good day.
(November 4th 2004 )
Hello, Sorry for the lack of updates but it has been pretty hard to get on the Internet lately...the page is going through some changes lately and will be completed as soon as possible...We have a confirmed show on November 26th in Belleville and we are pretty sure this one is going to happen...There is also talk of us going back for a christmas-ish show on December 19th. We are going to make a CD that will consist of songs that have been released already. If you have a favorite song you would like to see/hear on this CD please let us know about it in the guest book A.K.A. "g-book". We will give you the exact details on the 26th show as soon as we have them...til then, take care and play safe.
(October 6th 2004 )
Hey, the show on October the 8th is CANCELED...Sorry for all the build up, I am very saddened by this news and will post more when I am not feeling so cynical. I will still be in the area and would like to play an acoustic set if there is a spot to play and people to play for...if anyone wants to come to Tweed to watch it, let me know...Sign the guest book with your thoughts, ideas and suggestions...Thanks...

Now Available...This Soft Light Sheet Music!Yay! And although it is still under construction Alex's online home away from home
(September 26th 2004 )
After many months of rehab we are going to be hitting the stage again and even though we are now located in Ottawa we still like to think of Belleville as our home...That is why our first show back will be at The Engineers Hall in Belleville...We are playing with "We, the Accused", "Zagorra", "Eliote" and possibly "Bone Daddy"...The doors open at 7:00pm and it's $5 to get in.
This will be the first show we will be selling the new CD "i'm just tired" for $5 as well we have another CD that is a collection of songs we have recorded from October 1999 until December 2003...It is called "Then Til Now" and is for everyone who didn't have the chance to hear the older song when they came out and since those CD's are not being printed anymore, this is a good way to hear those songs...It will be $7 and has 20 songs in total.
(September 18th 2004 )
We have a show...We are playing in Belleville on October 8th with Bone Daddy, Zagorra, We The Accused (also from Ottawa). It is at the Engineers Hall and the doors open at 7:00 I believe...We won't be on stage til about 9:00 or 9:45.
(September 10th 2004 )
We have added a lot of new pictures in the "Non-Live" section that were all taken last week, there are a lot of the band and a few new ones for each member. There has been talk about a Belleville show on either the 8th or the 15th of October so check back and we will let you know as the details unfold.
(August 30th 2004 )
As the ball starts rolling...ok, Jon is on the web site. He is in the members section, he is in the pictures section...He is taking over...check it out. The CD is 100% done. I have put small images of the front cover and the back cover up as well as a desktop wallpaper version for a 600x800 screen for anyone who is interested, just click on the image you want. It is a 5 song CD even though we recorded 11 songs. But if you would like to hear the other 6 songs just contact Alex and get a copy of "this soft light". So as of our next show which will be our first show in a long time, the CD will be for sale for five hundred thousand dollars...but it's a sliding scale so if you can only afford five dollars, that will do as well.
(August 26th 2004 )
Hey, it was a fun week recording with Dan and Alex on the new Eliote CD, I think it tured out really well. Everyone should pick up a copy if they can. Also pick up a copy of Alex's "This Soft Light" CD, it consist of pretty much all of the quieter songs that were going on the Blind Ambition CD plus a few more songs Alex did on his own.
The cover art is all done for the Blind Ambition CD. The CD is only going to have 5 or 6 songs on it but that is a good thing cause it won't cost as much. Not to mention there will be something else being released probably around christmas as ususal (see www.purevolume.com/defeated for more details.
Just a few site updates, I removed some bands from the links page because they have all broken up for one reason or another. Also Local H was added back after they somehow UNFORTUNATELY were removed for however long they weren't listed there...If you don't know who Local H is and you like Blind Ambition's music, I highly recommend you check out Local H. My Heros...
Oh, and we have no shows coming up, if you know a place we can play, please e-mail melody10@nexicom.net.
(August 24th 2004 )
Things have been pretty busy for the past week or so. I (Alex) played a short set in Belleville and put together a CD called "This Soft Light", consisting of tracks previously intended for the new Blind Ambition disc. Speaking of the new Blind Ambition CD, it is slowly and surely reaching the verge of completion.
Daniel Thomson of Eliote is in Ottawa recording his new EP. It sounds really good. Hope to see you soon.
(August 20th 2004 )
Hey, so sorry for the lack of updates, there has been lots of talk about the band here and there about when we will be hitting the stage again and when the album will be released...
Well, this is where those two topics stand. We have been asked to play a few shows, the first one was tonight, August 20th in
Belleville but Jon (the new drummer) has previous plans but Alex is going to play an acoustic set of his own material he has been working on, including a few of the songs we just finished recording. Other possible shows now are September 1st in Bancroft and September 3rd in Belleville. I think everyone is done with summer trips so we will be practicing a lot more and will be ready for any live shows from now on.
As for the CD, after we finished recording everything we realized that we had recorded 2 EP's. We have found it very hard to mix these songs up on a cd and make the CD keep a good flow so we have been talking about a) seperating them in to two different projects, b) putting all the soft songs at the beginning of the cd and the heavy ones at the end, or c) just mix them up as best we can. Other than that we have rough idea's for cover art and liner notes but nothing we both agree on 100% together. I think we will keep cover art simple and remember that it's a music CD we are releasing and not a photo gallary. If we failed to mention before the CD is going to be called "i'm just tired". It's something I have found a lot of people (myself included) use when you just don't feel like explaining yourself and how you are feeling...It's ok to not always wear a smile on your face if your just not feeling it...Anyways, Thank for all the birthday wishes in the guest book, that was very sweet. Please keep signing the guest book, let us know how you are doing, ask any questions you may have and stay tuned...cause somethings gotta give...
(July 19th 2004 )
All of the recording has been completed. We are just working on cover art now and should have the new product shortly. There could possibly be a show in Belleville scheduled for August 20th, but nothing is certain as of yet.
(July 19th 2004 )
Piano tracks are all done. In fact everything is done except for one little vocal track that alex has to do. If only he could sing...*tear*
Elizabeth Eaton plays piano on some songs, and Jesse Lyon plays violin on some songs. They each bring certain elements to the songs that makes the music sound good as a whole. It's nice when the music sounds good. yes? yes.
(July 11th 2004)
So ya, if Alex didn't just say he was drunk I would have at least hoped he was. I have had a pretty quiet week cause all I did was a drum track and 2 guitar tracks on Wednesday while Alex has been slowly plugging away trying to get all his detailed parts done...I honestly dont know what I have left to do...I have one more song but I dont want to record it for this album so I think I am done recording for this project. Hopefully I can help Alex finish up his parts by the 14th and we can finish up the mixing by the 18th. After that we will get all the cover art and liner notes done. We already have a few pretty good ideas floating around for the overall look so we will hopefully have a first run of 50 CD's ready to go on July 31st...And finally, there has been some talk about a new drummer...We will let you know as it unfolds...Hold on tight.
(July 3rd 2004)
recording these songs has been really frustrating, but also very fun as we've had numerous guest musicians to work with. Matt Gilmour just recently put down a guitar track on "impossibility", and a while ago, a wonderful guest singer by the name of Hannah Mills sang on two tracks: "Exactly;Approximately" and "I'm not so sure".
The SONGS AND LYRICS page has been updated with many new songs and words. Ch-Check it out.
(July 2nd 2004)
Hello, hope everyone had a good Canada Day (if you're Canadian). We are back recording again...We have 7 songs completed, on the completed list we have 84% Lies, Angels, End, Letting Go, Myself Away, The Bottle and Threnody. The majority of these songs are the more straight ahead rock songs and the songs that we are still working on are the more melodic numbers that we are adding instruments such as piano, cello and violin. Alex also wanted me to let you know he has been doing the same 45 seconds of a song for one full hour now. So, while he takes one more stab at it, i'm going to put up the lyrics for "Myself Away". P.S. Alex just finished his tracks. and I signed a huge entry in the Guest Book...
(June 26th 2004)
Hey, Alex and I are taking a short break from the studio/recording life to fill in with Eliote who just lost their drummer so Mark will be playing drums and Alex is playing bass while Cam graduates and works. The 2 shows are on Saturday June 26th at Bone Bash just outside of Belleville and at The Rockit in Toronto on Monday June 28th. For more information on Eliote and/or the shows we will be joining them for, please check out their web site.
(June 23rd 2004)
Cold coffee, sour cream & onion chips, chocolate and a lot of water...
This is what our diet has consisted of for the past 48 hours. So far, there are three songs finished: 1. Myself Away 2. Ariadne 3. Threnody. Today we did some cello tracks, too. And it really sounds good.
You can access some of the songs here:
Myself Away. (go to the Sounds and Lyrics section and click on the "purevolume" link if this isn't downloading properly)
(June 22nd 2004)
Hello. This is alex speaking/typing. Has anyone other than Mark ever updated this site? I am excited, but nervous...i have big shoes to fill. I am writing to inform anyone interested about our progress in the recording process. In a nutshell: we have 2.67 songs finished (not yet mixed, though.) It is slowly, but surely coming together and Mark and I are very pleased with our actions. The sound of the material is greatly eclectic; Mark writes excellent heavy songs, while i have contributed more "cushiony" stuff. However, the final result will be a lot of fun. Many different instruments and sounds. We shall keep in touch.
(June 11th 2004)
Hello Again, thanks to everyone for signing the guest book. It has really raised my spirits...I put up some pictures from the show on March 11th finally, I hope you like them, I updated the "Links" section as well...I am making small changes here and there to try to make the page look good and fresh for you. I went to see Exact Match opened up for Finger Eleven on the 8th and Hayden on the 9th...Both shows were great, working sucks, music is slow but we are moving on. Alex is writing exams this week so we will continue recording after he is done, until then though, I will continue working on the 3 heavier song that I have on the go. I hope you have a good weekend.
(June 5th 2004)
Hello anyone who has decided to stop by...how are you doing? Please sign the guest book and let me know. Well, I have moved to Ottawa and I am settled in and have things organized and I have been working and recording. A lot of the new songs are really heavy but I think they are just things I have to get out of my system, some of the working titles are "The Bottle", "Letting Go", "84% Lies", and "Untitled #27". Some of them are further along in the recording process but I'm sure they will all be done some day soon. Alex and I have started to play together again, we just recorded an acoustic song on Thursday that he wrote. We only have the drums, bass and a rough guitar and vocal track done but it's coming along very well. So anyways, I am going to be able to do more updates when I have news and I will keep you updated on the recordings.
Alex and I might start playing acoustic shows for a bit 'til we see what is going on 'cause I don't think the original plan of the band all moving to Ottawa, having Alex sing and me (Mark) play drums, is going to work so I'm back to the drawing board with Alex by my side...I'm going to try to update the lyrics section in the next few days and the shows section with the information from the show on April 30 as well...so until next time, take care and be honest.
(April 6th 2004)
Hey, not a lot is new, i'm going to be moving to Ottawa in 3 weeks and i think it will be a pretty crazy 3 weeks for me...maybe lots of traveling involved, maybe some big finally shows...not to sure about everything right now though. for now, here is a song the Dan Thomson did that I play drums and a little guitar on...This is the song that Dan did.
(March 26th 2004)
Hey, it was so much fun telling you about how Blind Ambition has a purevolume site that I have now set up a purevolume site for "defeated". In time I will have all different songs on the Blind Ambition and on the Defeated one but for now I have "End", "In Time" and "Sadder Day". It's the same deal as before where you can download and/or stream the songs. So feel free to head over and check out the purevolume site for Defeated.
(March 23rd 2004)
I have a purevolume account now and I finally have "End" uploaded, you can currently download and/or stream the songs "Sadder Day", "End" and a live clip of "Pain". So feel free to head over and check out the purevolume site now.
(March 12th 2004)
The show last night was really good, it was really fun to play and all the people there were really supportive and seemed to really enjoy the set. I played as many requests as I could hear and as many as I knew how to play. There were a lot of highlights throughout the night and i'm glad that the people that were there were able to share them with me...and remember, if you want me to play a song for you...e-mail melody10@nexicom.net and I will try to get in a set for you.
I am going to be playing another show by myself on Saturday...Check out the shows section for details...(actually, I dont even know it I put any details, I just said I was going to be playing...check it out...)
(March 11th 2004)
Hello, I just finished recording "End", Im not completely happy with the vocals but they get better as the song goes on. The song rings in at an exact 8 minutes, I tried to upload it but it's 7.34MB and I can only upload 5MB...So i'm not sure what i'm going to do about that yet...If anyone would like to host it for me, I would really like to have it on the page for you to hear.
I have fixed up my acoustic guitar and I have been playing a lot lately. Last week we played on Thursday and Friday and I ended both sets with some acoustic songs. At the show on Friday I was asked to play more songs after the other bands were finished so I did. I am going to put up a list of the songs I played in the shows section.
I'm also most likely going to be playing an acoustic set tonight at the Engineers Hall sometime between 7pm-10:30pm. Feel free to stop by and check it out, we are going to be watching a movie after the bands finish so feel free to stick around for that.
(February 9th 2004)
Hey, I played an unexspected show on Friday February 6th, a band didn't show up so I filled the spot, I did a write up about it in the "shows" section. I started re-recording "End", I want to make it sound how it deserves to sound. I might actually start looking for more solo shows, I really had a good time on Friday. I'll let you know what i'm thinking after I have thought it out...take care.
(February 3rd 2004)
Hey, I have been pretty busy with the band side of thing this past week or so and they will be busy for at least another week but after that im sure it will die down again and i will be back to work on my recordings...talk to you soon though.
(January 18th 2004)
